Banff Canmore Heart Creek Canyon Trip Itinerary Map

9:00 – 12:30 am:
Meet and greet at the Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino (Approximately 20min east of Canmore). Here you will meet your raft guides and other members of the group. Your guides will provided with all the necessary equipment and they will also do a pre-trip briefing prior to starting the trip to ensure everyone knows what to expect and to ensure everyone has everything they need for an amazing rafting experience. During the pre-trip briefing your guides will also provide you with a copy of the rafting Waiver for you to review and complete prior to heading out . All participants are required to sign the rafting Waiver as a condition of participating. After the trip pre-briefing participants get shuttled to the starting point of the river.

Winding its way across the picturesque landscape of Kananaskis Country, this river is known for its striking scenery and playful whitewater sections making it the ideal course for your first rafting adventure.

1:30 pm – 6:00pm:
A short 10 min drive will bring you from the Stoney Nakoda Resort to the the meeting spot for your afternoon Canyoning adventure at the Heart Creek Trailhead Parking lot. Here you will meet your canyoning guides and other members of the group. Your canyoning guides will provided you with all the necessary equipment and they will also do a pre-trip briefing prior to starting the trip to ensure everyone knows what to expect and to ensure everyone has everything they need for an amazing canyoning experience. An approximate 45min hike brings us to the top of the canyon and the start of our adventure.

We gear up! It takes approximately 2 – 3 hours to descend the entire length of the canyon which ALWAYS includes one final wet rappel, and 20 – 25 min hike from the bottom of the canyon will bring you back to your vehicle.

Generally the canyoning portion takes 4-5 hours and the rafting portion 3-4 hours. Please note these are only approximations. We strongly recommend planning for additional time when planning your day. Occasionally due to factors out of our control, trips can take longer. Groups speeds can also vary a lot so please plan on being back later than the estimated time.

Due to the active nature of this trip we require all participants to be at least 12 years of age. Participants do not require any previous rope or rappelling experience, they must though be relatively comfortable with heights.

Heart Creek Canyon is located 17km east of the town site of Canmore and approximately 10 min drive from Canmore and 25 minutes from Banff. Look for the Heart Creek Trail exit

The Stoney Nakoda Resort is right at the intersetion of Hwy 1 and Hwy 40 south approximately 40min east of Banff and 20min east of Canmore.

Meeting and departure times for either the canyoning portion or the rafting portion will be 9:00 am or 1:30pm.

When organizing the rafting portion first you well meet at 9:00 at the Stoney Nakoda resort, followed by the Canyoning portion at 1:30 at Heart Creek Trail

It is a good idea to change into a bathing suit before arriving at the meeting point. There are rudimentary public toilets at the Heart Creek Trailhead. We will “suit up” and change into wet suits before we rappel into the canyon which is after our short approach hike up the top of both canyon sections. Please also keep in mind that there are no services at the staging area. The closets gas station is in Deadmans Flats.
